From the same song cycle which gives us “Choose Something Like a Star,” this classic needs to be brought to the forefront once more. Thompson’s setting of Robert Frost’s poetry is rhythmically vital and requires good, low singing from the chorus. While this piece is mostly sung in unison, the final passage does split three ways when the text and music temporarily slow down and become more contemplative. Thompson’s accompaniment requires a pianist with great skill and agility. This piece is a classic in every sense of the word.
