Marjan Holmes is Composer-in-Residence for the Michigan State University Community Music School, where, in addition to composing, she also teaches composition and piano. She has set Emily Dickinson’s poem to a whimsical, rhythm-driven setting that dances along in 6/8, with an occasional feeling of three or a 2/4 measure inserted to throw it off for just a moment. The sprightly piano part requires a good accompanist. This piece would challenge your young singers, you as a director, and your accompanist, but would be so worth the effort!
