Homophonic and employing triadic harmonies, the primary difficulty of Shaw’s piece is having your choir negotiate singing from eight staves and doing some four-against-three rhythms. It is completely worth the trouble. The haunting beauty of this work depicts the swallow searching for its nest, and in this regard is a perfect complement to a range of programs, from ones featuring nature and animals to programs about housing adversity.
