Jay Broeker has created a wonderful arrangement of this old poem. Students are immediately drawn to the nonsensical rhyming of the poetry and the humorous unfolding of the story of Antonio. Singers will enjoy variety in the piece using a simple ostinato, two-part singing and a brief canonic passage. The ending offers a particularly delightful challenge by incorporating portions of exact imitation followed by another two-part section of “Antonio’s” at the 4th! While the difficulty level for singers is moderate, you will want a very talented keyboard artist to accompany the group!
