This multi-meter piece is a great opener for a concert. It is a study in alternative choral reading because it reads across two pages before moving down. The dynamic contrasts create tension and excitement as the music increases in speed. Range in the bass is from A to d1; tenor from d to f1; alto from b to d2; and soprano from c#1 to g2. The mix of Latin and English adds to the percussiveness of the piece. The rhythmic structure makes this a terrific teaching piece. This is one the choir will sing all year long once the syncopation and text is mastered. Noel Goemanne is from Belgium, currently residing in Texas. He has indicated the text is most important in his compositions.
