At first glance, this piece looks more difficult than it is. The tenor and bass part can be used alternating depending on the voice ranges of your guys. My choir sometimes sang the tenor part and sometimes sang the bass part. For those boys that have the small 5 note range around the C below middle C, the bass part works well for them. Altos have a fun part that doesn’t just supply harmony. We changed the first words to the traditional words to be less sacred. The addition of the melody from We Three Kings gives the men their own distinct part to sing. The handbell part can be performed on a xylophone and marimba and will still be effective. The piece starts simple, moves into more complex layering and ends simply. Great piece for the middle of your winter concert program!
