Although the title, Eja Eja! is Latin for “joy,” most of the song is in English. In contrast to Et in Terra Pax by the same composer, this arrangement has a driving rhythmic quality. “Rhythms will dance and the melodies soar, feel the joy of the music.” It is written in an ABCBA form, which could offer an interesting teaching strategy. My choir learned the A sections first, then the B and finally the contrasting C section. The lyrical nature of the C section appears simple in the voice parts, but is enhanced with the addition of the colorful accompaniment. This would make a good opener in choral performance!
