This is a samba Heart and Soul. The piece is thought to have originated in Sao Paulo, Brazil. American jazz great Stan Getz has recorded it with his ensemble. This is a fun, up-tempo folksong with ample opportunity for vocal percussion and even audience participation. Students will quickly hook into the recognizable chord progressions and fun rhythms. This is on the top of my “to do soon” stack with my more advanced women’s choir. I think that this could also be programmed successfully with a strong children’s choir. Rating: Medium (mostly because of rhythm)
