A challenging late Renaissance motet, this piece contains complex imitative counterpoint alternating with homophonic sections in triple meter. Useful as a concert opener, Hassler constructs musical motives aptly representing the “tympanum” and “cythara.” Sixteenth-note melismatic passages require lightness and agility.
