earthsongs continues its excellence with this world music octavo that celebrates diversity, reflects divergent styles and hopes for a peaceful coexistence. It begins with a beautiful European chant melody that may be sung by a soprano soloist or small group. At measure 30 a three-part round is heard and can be divided equally with men’s and women’s voices on each part. The flute and violin add texture at measure 30. At measure 92 the Zulu language and rhythmic change create energy towards the end where both musical ideas are combined. A pronunciation guide is provided for the Zulu language. Conga drums and other percussion instruments enter at measure 92 and are crucial to the song’s success. This South African freedom song will be enjoyed by all singers.
