Hymne à Saint-Martin, composed by Lithuanian composer Vaclav Augustinas, was the 3rd prize winner in the “Florilege Vocal de Tours” (France) in 1996. This double choir motet is filled with interesting harmonic shifts and meter changes that will delight and challenge your choir. The text honors St. Martin of Tours, patron saint of France, father of monasticism in Gaul, and the first leader of Western monasticism. Of particular interest is the returning “Alleluia” refrain set primarily in 7/8, which provides an ethereal, dance-like celebration honoring the beloved patron saint.
