“ll Bianco E Dolce Cigno,” a beautiful four-part madrigal setting by the sixteenth century composer, Jacob Arcadelt, is full of the madrigalisms of the day. Homophonic with some imitation at the conclusion, the harmonies are simple and clear, with fauxbourdon obvious in this through-composed part song. The cadential extension with a long cantus describes “Dying a thousand deaths “. Not a difficult selection.
