Considering Matthew Shepard is a “three-part fusion oratorio” that centers around the life of Matthew Shepard, a young gay student at the University Wyoming in Laramie who was kidnapped, beaten, tied to a fence post, and left to die. Innocence captures a time of remembering when life was full of promise and dreaming was an activity filled with hope. A tenor soloist begins this piece by wondering where all these promising times have gone. “The full choir supports the soloist with the repeated question ‘Where, O where?’, but an answer doesn’t come.” Consider performing this piece alone or with other titles from this timely and powerful work.
