This late Baroque work exhibits characteristics of both German and French styles-upbeat dance rhythms, in duple meter, and majestic courtly music in triple meter. The tri-partite form concludes with a proclamatic “Alleluia” just begging for applications of inegales. The brevity of Psalm 117, just two verses (shortest in the Bible), is reflected musically. Musical length, and accessibility of both voices and instruments makes it a great “teaching” piece and allows for flexible programming.
