hose conductors who wish to celebrate the Mozart year with one of his less familiar masterworks should consider this Mass. It is at least as good as his other more familiar missa brevis settings. In addition to the tutti SATB choir, there is the usual solo quartet, including a more extended solo for the soprano at “Benedictus. ” The tessitura of the alto part is a little low for young female singers, but all ranges are quite reasonable. The usual Salzburg orchestra includes 2 violins, cello, bass, and organ (never obbligato) with “colla parte” trombones. Like some other Kalmus editions the note size for the choir is rather small.
