Muié Rendêra combines two traditional songs from northeast Brazil and is written in the character of a baiã, or Brazilian folk dance. The piece can be performed either a cappella or with percussion, and is not overly complex in terms of text or setting. Both songs are playful in nature – the first which deals with the courting of the lacemaker woman (Muié Rendêra), and the second which tells about the man Virgulino, who is nicknames Lampeao (Virgulino é Lampeão). The two traditional melodies are introduced and developed utilizing an Olê! la, la refrain, ostinato passages and syncopated rhythms to create a lively arrangement of popular folk music.
