Dan Kallman created an entirely new melody for this familiar carol in 2002, and it has been a favorite of both our singers and audiences since. After verses for unison SA and TB with rich piano accompaniment, there follow two verses in four to six parts, the first with piano, the second a cappella. The final verse is, again, unison with piano, plus a soprano descant.

Dan’s harmonic language is traditional, but extremely effective, with harmonic changes on almost every beat, and elegant voice leading with numerous passing tones. The challenge of getting all these quick-moving chords in tune is a labor of love.
