R&R Chair Jazz Choirs

A fabulous a cappella ballad with lush harmonies in vocal jazz style, this song is originally from a Broadway musical from 1962 that has a beautiful melody line. The song begins with the chorus singing “loo-loo’s” in contrasting rhythms as an accompaniment to a solo voice singing the first verse. The full chorus enters with the lyrics on the second verse. The part writing has many suspensions and seventh and ninth chords. There is much opportunity to vary the tempo and add tenutos on important chords. The final verse modulates up a whole step, hits a climax chord, and then returns to “loo-loo’s” to finish the same way it began. Stunning! The SSAA version is just as interesting as the mixed voice arrangement. Your ladies will love it.
