“Regina Coeli is a fine example of Mozart’s choral writing: excellent text setting, choral and orchestral writing consisting of tremendous rhythmic drive, exposed melismatic passages for chorus and soloists, sectionalized passages (in this case “Alleluia” punctuates the textual phrases) and a seemingly endless amount of textural variety. The influence of the great Handel and his Hallelujah Chorus can be easily noticed in this rousing motet. Ranges and tessitura are comfortable.
