Category: COMMUNITY CHOIRS
Composer: Eriks Esenvalds
Publisher: Musica Baltica
Setting: a cappella
Ešenvalds wrote this piece for the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain in 2017. It is homophonic, generally in six parts, and requires some long, soaring phrases. Basses need to sing down to E (optional D at end) and sopranos must sustain a couple high, long lines, but never at a soft dynamic.
The internal musical repetitions and the straight-forward harmonies make this piece quite manageable. The lovely text by Tagore, a gentle prayer of praise, could be effective in a number of programming situations.
