Musica Russica’s characteristically beautiful edition of Svete tihiy (what many of us first encountered as “Gladsome Light” edited by Noble Cain) restores the original voicings and painstakingly documents the composer’s expressive markings. Their transliteration system for the church Slavonic text is clear and easily learned (even if some phonemes are not!). Bass and tenor divide into three parts each at times. Low Cs abound (although it works well, as in Cain’s edition, up a half-step). If you have the male horses, this is a glorious setting from the Eastern Orthodox Vesper Service. Duration – 3:40.
