The Bluebird is a poem by Mary Coleridge and a wonderful example of Stanford’s ability to create color and mood with the simplest of pen strokes. It is a slow, homophonic 5-part setting with long sustained chords which seem to reflect the blue of the sky, the cold air, the lake and the single bird flying overhead
