Keeping with this theme, why not sing This Little Light of Mine as arranged by Moses Hogan? Originally written for Anton Armstrong and the St Olaf Choir, this piece is powerful in performance. It requires more vocal “horsepower” than the last two mentioned, but if you can muster the troops, it is well worth it. Since this was a favorite freedom song of the formidable Fanny Lou Hamer, one could start a conversation about her—the heroic, plain-speaking voting rights activist from Mississippi whose fearless witness for equality at the 1964 Democratic National Convention captured the imagination of a nation.
