This piece lends itself to really work your men’s section. The boys’ part is interesting and has a great range. It sometimes doubles the soprano part so it is good for a beginning of the year “quick learn” piece. The text is tough and manly and the boys have the melody in the middle section. The bridge has syncopated, repeated rhythms that build on each other. The text helps teach the history of the 1800’s, which is typically covered in 8th grade social studies.
