Guevara’s setting of this Quichuan poem from the indigenous people of Ecuador is a dialogue between the men’s and women’s voices. The piece is manageable for a high school ensemble, and my students have enjoyed the interplay between the genders. A quality recording of this piece was made by Dr. Karle Erickson’s World Voices on the album, A Cultural Odyssey.
