If you like the songs and choral works of Gerald Finzi, you will love this communion anthem for SATB choir and organ. Although the poem of Henry Vaughan is rich in Christian symbolism, it ranks with those of Robert Herrick and George Herbert as a great poem when judged aesthetically as well. The marvelous organ part requires a sensitive musician even though it is not extremely difficult technically. The typical “vocal” writing of Finzi is present everywhere and each voice part is treated with care, often singing as a solo line or in duet. It is about 7 minutes in length.
